GC Task Success Survey (TSS) results
Peter Smith (DTO)
Presentation: "GC Task Success Survey Update"
- Continuously running exit survey running across AEM and most other sites across the GC web presence
- Over 40K participants every month / 600K over the fiscal year 2022-23
- Overall results from 2022-2023 leave room for improvement, at the individual task level, we are seeing tasks move in a positive direction
- You can use basic UX design strategies to make significant gains in task success for low performing tasks
- TBS is considering an official tasking to institutions on top task improvement (Fall 2023)
- DTO and PP would be there to support departments to make improvements - help improve TSS data, identifying what to improve, analyzing data for insights, measuring and reporting results, additional research and design
- Looking at how to create the conditions for success for a tasking
Question to the group: What would you want to see in that tasking to make it feasible for your organization?
Group suggestions
- A process document
- Details on the time frame for this tasking
- Could use some positioning to help explain optimization work to program people
- May need some governance around this – GC web presence is a shared resource, about GC as whole, to help get away from ‘it’s my site’
- Ask Depts to submit proposals on what they can do within the desired time frame - each department will have different capacity
- Helpful if TBS/DTO would emphasize more to senior management of departments the importance of doing these exercises, as it’s often not considered a priority and not much time is allocated to this type of work
- KPIs or targets would be helpful - for example, pick a top task and improve it by a specific percentage
For further comments or feedback, please email Peter Smith or reach him on Slack.
Theme questionnaire results
Annie Crombie (DTO)
Presentation: “Theme lead questionnaire - Summary of results”
- Follow up meetings with theme leads after topic tree analysis work revealed that many teams couldn’t act on feedback because of lack of resources
- The Theme lead questionnaire was aimed at better understanding the issues
- We’ve seen a shift since the Web renewal initiative when the project was resourced, but since then multi-institution theme content has been de-prioritized
- As we start to think about findability and SEO and AI generated content, need to look at findability in different ways
