About PFAN

Since 2018, Library and Archives Canada (LAC) has created its name authority records in OCLC's WorldShare Management Services (WMS) integrated library management system. The English-language authority records are created in the LC/NACO file of the Name Authority Cooperative Program. The French-language authority records are created in the Canadiana file which has been governed by the Francophone Name Authority Program (PFAN) since the spring of 2020. For more information, please contact bac.pfan-fnap.lac@canada.ca.

PFAN Discussion List

About the Discussion List

PFAN-L is a bilingual discussion list established by the Programme francophone des autorités de noms (PFAN) to participating libraries.

List participants are encouraged to use the list to:

  • provide information of interest to PFAN participating libraries;
  • ask questions and propose solutions to other PFAN libraries.

You may use the listserv web interface to configure your user profile, to use basic listserv commands and to search discussion list archives. Please visit: https://listserv.collectionscanada.gc.ca/cgi-bin/wa.

For questions and concerns relating to the list, please contact: bac.coorddeliste-listcoord.lac@canada.ca .

List Commands

To send a message to all of the people currently subscribed to the list, just send mail to PFAN-L@LISTSERV.LAC-BAC.GC.CA, which is called the list address. You must never try to send  any command to that  address, as it would be distributed to all the  people who have subscribed. All commands must be  sent to  LISTSERV@LISTSERV.LAC-BAC.GC.CA, which is  the LISTSERV address. It is important to understand the difference between the two.

You may leave the list at any  time by sending a "SIGNOFF PFAN-L" command to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.LAC-BAC.GC.CA.  You can also tell LISTSERV  how you want it to confirm the receipt of  messages you send to the list. To send yourself a copy of your own  messages, send a "SET PFAN-L REPRO" command.

Alternatively, to have LISTSERV send  you a short acknowledgement instead of the entire message, send a  "SET PFAN-L ACK NOREPRO" command. Finally, you can turn  off acknowledgements completely with the  "SET PFAN-L NOACK NOREPRO" command.

PFAN-L uses a UNIX-based LISTSERV software. Information about advanced commands for LISTSERV can be retrieved by sending the following message:

To: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.LAC-BAC.GC.CA

Message: INFO REFCARD

All commands to LISTSERV should be in the body of the message. Since the software is English, all commands to LISTSERV must be in English.
