How many cars are on the road?

More than 24.2 million vehicles were registered in Canada in 2016, including:

  • 92.3% weighing less than 4,500 kilograms (passenger cars, pickups, SUVs and minivans);
  • 4.3% weighing 4,500 kilograms or more (medium and heavy trucks); and
  • 3.3% of other types (buses, motorcycles and mopeds).
