GC Students is proud to partner with the present the Award Winning 2024 Interdepartmental Language Interchange Program (ILIP) to offer student workers in the Government of Canada a chance to practice their second official language!

This initiative will run from September 9th to November 1st, 2024.

About ILIP

ILIP stems from an experimental project that debuted in Summer 2021. This year will be the fourth iteration of ILIP; building on the success of previous years.

Through the program, participants practise their official language skills and network with employees from participating government departments and agencies. These sessions are informal and led by volunteering facilitators who keep the conversation fluid by presenting topics of conversation or asking questions.

Facilitators lead the sessions in order to keep the conversation fluid and interactive, by proposing discussion topics, asking questions, and helping participants should they require assistance (i.e., pronunciation or helping them find the right way to translate a word or a sentence).

Participants will meet with their designated group and practice the official language of their choice weekly, for a period of eight weeks. Each group will be led by a facilitator and assembled by level: beginner, intermediate, or advanced.

The program will take place for an hour a week, for six weeks, starting during the week of May 15, 2023. You will be able to determine with your assigned group what times and days would work best for you all to meet.

What’s in it for you:

  • Practising professional skills (public speaking, collaboration, communication, leadership, networking);
  • Networking with colleagues from other government departments and agencies;
  • Improving or maintaining your official language skills;
  • Adding ILIP to your Learning and Development Plan can add to your achievements during your yearly performance review;
  • Having fun while helping others!
