Welcome to the Relocation Services

Welcome to the National Relocation from MAMD for ISC and CIRNAC employees. Here you’ll find the key information and resources to complete your relocation with clarity and peace of mind. Managers and HR will also find what they need to successfully relocate employees.


Our Mandate

The Government of Canada’s relocation framework, including the National Joint Council (NJC) Relocation Directive and the Integrated Relocation Program, is designed to support efficient employee relocations at reasonable public cost, while minimizing disruption to both employees (and their families) and departmental operations.


Our Key Activities

  • Implement the NJC Relocation Directive to manage reimbursement of authorized relocation expenses and uphold standards of efficiency and fairness.
  • Administer the Government of Canada Relocation Support Services (GCRSS), offering a “one-stop shopping” relocation support model, which delivers core funding and professional guidance to employees throughout their move.
  • Ensure adherence to the Initial Appointee Relocation Program (IARP) for newly appointed public servants, including managing funding envelopes, eligibility, and relocation counselling.
  • Provide professional relocation advice, planning, and execution support — enabling employees to make informed decisions and maximize their entitled benefits, while maintaining departmental accountability.

Updates

Initial Appointee Relocation Program (IARP) – Clarifications

  • The IARP contains no provision or authority to delay a relocation for any reason (including telework/remote work or COVID-19).
  • The appointee’s relocation must be registered with the CRSP and authorised by the department’s relocation team immediately upon acceptance of the letter of offer.
  • The employee is not required under IARP to be at the new place of duty by their official start date and may be allowed to telework from their primary residence; however, the relocation must be completed within 12 months of acceptance of the letter of offer.
  • There is no authority to extend the 12-month timeframe. Expenses incurred outside the 12-month period are not eligible for reimbursement.
  • If the candidate chooses not to relocate, they must submit a formal written request to cancel relocation entitlements with hiring manager support, to the department’s relocation office.
