Web Managers - April 1

Hello Web managers.

Thank you for signing up for this list.

As the COVID-19 situation develops, and departments race to create web content in response, we need a coordinated approach. This is especially important during a crisis, as Canadians are looking to us for clear, reliable and up-to-date information.

Please see the recent message sent to Heads of communications on this (attached).

All-of-government response

The following partners are providing leadership to departments on the all-of-government response:

  • Health Canada
  • Treasury Board Secretariat - Digital Transformation Office
  • Principal Publisher
  • Privy Council Office

If you have a question or require information from these partners, see detailed contact information for who to connect with.

Work with your theme leads

We are asking web managers across departments to work with their theme leads to coordinate web content as you work to support announcements and other developments. This will help ensure that we are not duplicating efforts and that we create clear paths on Canada.ca for Canadians to follow to get to the answers they need.

We are meeting daily with theme lead departments. Given the rapidly evolving situation and the need to have a strong coordinated response, you are welcome to participate in these meetings as well. You can find details of those meetings on GCwiki. You don’t need an account, and you can access it from your personal device if you need to:

A summary from the last 2 weeks was sent out in the latest Digital Transformation Office newsletter.

This included details and guidance on:

  • the overarching digital strategy
  • directing users to the main COVID landing page (Canada.ca/coronavirus)
  • where departments should focus when creating new content
  • how to use alerts in a crisis
  • using the content inventory to help reduce duplicate content
  • how to connect your content in the main Canada.ca IA
  • crisis communications
  • strictly limiting the creation of vanity urls
  • branding elements for COVID-19 communications
  • performance measurement

Please reach out to your theme lead department(s) if you have any questions.

If you have not already done so, sign up the mailing list!

Thank you for all your efforts to keep up with the changing situation and provide quality web content to Canadians.
