📅 Emancipation Day Commemoration

Join us on July 29, 2021 for the Inaugural Commemoration to mark the first nationally recognized Emancipation Day in Canada.

The webinar will raise awareness of its historical context and how the day was celebrated in the past. It will also recognize the accomplishments of Black Canadians as they continue to challenge systemic racism in today’s society.

The story of Walter Perry’s determination to put on a celebration that would transcend divisions of race and class.

Presentation and panel discussion with simultaneous interpretation, American Sign Language and Quebec Sign Language.

Presenters include:

🎤 Paige Gallette: Community organizer and educator. Cofounder of Northern Voices Rising.

🎤 Balarama Holness: Community activist and founder of Montreal en action.

🎤 Sgt. Craig Smith: 25 year veteran of the RCMP, historian, writer and author.

In celebration of Emancipation Day, Federal Black Employee Caucus (FBEC) - BC Chapter is pleased to organize an outdoor gathering and the invitation is open to all.

⭐ Emancipation Day Outdoor Gathering

Come meet FBEC BC members, allies and other public servants as we gather on this important day. Bring your own supplies that you need to stay hydrated and comfortable. This includes food and beverage, BBQ, chairs, blankets, and anything else you need.

This is a family friendly event. Bring your family and friends to join a fun and relaxing afternoon. Please note that social distancing measures will be followed.

-Time: 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm

-Location: Lafarge Lake in Town Centre Park, 1299 Pinetree Way Coquitlam BC V3B 7S4 (See map for direction). Look for the FBEC BC Decade for People of African Descent signs.

Lafarge Lake is accessed by transit from Lafarge Lake-Douglas SkyTrain station and has ample free parking.
