Cultivating Allyship: ‘Beyond Pronouns’ Book Club Meet-Up with Author Tammy Plunkett

The Diversity and Inclusion Office (DIO) is excited to extend an invitation to our upcoming book club meeting, where we will delve into the insightful book by Tammy Plunkett, “Beyond Pronouns: The Essential Guide for Parents of Trans Children.” In line with our resolve to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in our workplace, we aim to provide space for critical and generative conversations that promote empathy, learning, and inclusion.

We are committed to reading and discussing books that shed light on crucial DEI topics. Our book club welcomes all, as inclusivity means everyone, always.

As dedicated public servants working to create psychologically safer environments, we understand the importance of every member feeling respected and heard. By participating in this book club, we endeavor to incorporate DEI principles into our daily routines and professional conduct.

Tammy Plunkett’s “Beyond Pronouns: The Essential Guide for Parents of Trans Children” is a thought-provoking work, offering guidance to parents of trans children and addressing difficult questions that are crucial for cultivating understanding and acceptance. With deep expertise in the subject, Plunkett provides a resource for nurturing informed discussions and empathy around transgender experiences. Through research, personal narratives, and practical advice, the book empowers readers to support their trans children and develop a deeper understanding of gender diversity. Tammy is a certified life coach with a Global DEIB Strategy certificate, the spouse of a veteran ret. Major (Military Police), and a speaker who began her career as a registered nurse. Her freelance work has appeared in Today’s Parent and LGBTQ Nation, and she’s appeared on national television on The Doctors, Breakfast Television, The Social and The Marilyn Denis Show.

Highlights of the Book Club

What sets our book club meetings apart is the inclusion of the authors themselves, Tammy Plunkett and Mitchell Plunkett, who will be joining us for an engaging discussion. This unique opportunity allows us to interact directly with the authors and gain deeper insights into their experiences and the book’s significance for parents, caregivers, and most of all members of our workforce. As readers of this transformative text, we will undoubtedly acquire deeper insights and a better understanding of the issues that impact the trans community, ultimately helping us become more empathetic and informed allies.

By joining our book club, you actively contribute to our collective journey towards a more inclusive and equitable workforce. We eagerly await your contributions, unique insights, and expression of dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Let’s come together to learn, grow, and create a positive impact. See you at the book club!
