What does the Public Service Commission (PSC) do?
The Public Service Commission is a small department with a diverse and exciting mandate. We are approximately 850 employees located in 5 cities: Vancouver, Toronto, Gatineau, Montreal, and Halifax.

Corporate Secretariat: Where you may work directly with the President of the Public Service Commission of Canada.
The Corporate Secretariat provides support, advice and services to the Commission, the President and senior management, and acts as the custodian of the Commission governance framework. It is also responsible for the Access to Information and Privacy Legislations and their related responsibilities.
Corporate Affairs Sector: Where your work may contribute to Public Service Commission operations.
This sector provides central corporate services in support of all the Public Service Commission program activities, such as modern comptrollership, finance, Human Resource management, assessment and internal audit.
Legal Services: Where you may assist a team of lawyers.
The Legal Services unit deals with employment law and government law.
Oversight and Investigation Sector: Where you may assist a team of investigators and auditors.
Through independent audits, data analyses, surveys and investigations, the Oversight and Investigations Sector provides objective and timely information on the integrity and effectiveness of the public service staffing system, including the protection of merit and non-partisanship.
Policy and Communications Sector: Where you may support a team that develops public service policies and communication strategies.
The Policy and Communications Sector supports independent oversight by the Public Service Commission to Parliament. This sector develops policies related to merit in the federal public service and provides federal organizations with policies and guidance related to appointment, delegation, and accountability. The sector is responsible for strategic policy, political activities and non-partisanship, alignment of key departmental activities and outreach to the broader Government of Canada agenda, and special projects aimed at supporting strategic recruitment across the public service.
The sector also provides corporate communications and parliamentary affairs services to support all Public Service Commission program activities.
Services and Business Development Sector: Where you may work with psychologists or with our student and graduate recruitment programs.
The Services and Business Development Sector offers integrated, professional recruitment and assessment services, adapted to the needs of clients and the public service. It is responsible for the Public Service Resourcing System (GCjobs) and provides to hiring managers expert assessment products and services developed by the Personnel Psychology Centre. It administers the central recruitment programs, the regional offices and second language evaluations.

Administrative Officer
💻📧 Meet Emily: an enthusiastic and reliable human. Her first task of the day is to monitor her Director General’s inbox and priorities replies, respond to e-mails on behalf of the Director General, when possible, and forward e-mails for action to the team. She then reviews a presentation that was sent to the Director General and makes recommendations, edits and comments for further review. Meanwhile, she also supports her colleagues and peers by answering questions related to administration and coaching new junior administrative employees on her team. Emily ends her by updating the team’s task tracking system and sending reminder e-mails to all Directors on outstanding tasks.
Business Analyst
🕵️📈 Meet Eric: a charismatic and inquisitive human. He begins his day by planning and scheduling key meetings, such as brain storming sessions with the Personnel Psychology Centre. He will analyze progress being made on priority files and continues working on his report to IT to enhance and improve functionalities of the second language testing platform. He has been collaborating and discussing with his valued clients for the past few months, to obtain detailed information which allows him to draft his report.
Project officer
📋💼 Meet Chan: a bright and resourceful human. They often start their day by updating their team’s MS Project worksheet based on coworkers' input from the previous day to ensure that everyone has the latest information. They then confirm attendance for a committee meeting with Senior Directors that they had coordinated and scheduled the previous week. Later, they focus their attention on a small project they are managing, which requires coordination with several other teams to draft, review and deliver a report and presentation.
Team Supervisor
🤝🏽💁🏽♀️ Meet Fatima: a compassionate and adaptable human. She begins her day by reading and monitoring her e-mails. She sees an e-mail from one of her employees informing her that they will be absent. She quickly jumps into action and reassigns work for the day for her 7 employees. Fatima then prepares the agenda for her weekly meeting with her team, where she will be highlighting the team’s accomplishments of the year. She spends the remainder of the day working on her monthly financial forecast and billing clients for services rendered.
Administrative Assistant / Coordinator
🙋🏿♀️✨ Meet Joshit: an innovative and positive human. He is a HR Administrative Coordinator in the Student Programs Team. He decides to start his day by working on incoming requests for student referrals from the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP). He logs the referrals into the team’s tracking system and replies to e-mails from students and hiring managers. He collaborates daily with HR Advisors on his team to answer complex questions from students and hiring managers as well as participating to in person and virtual Student Career Fairs. Joshit ends his day by attending a biweekly meeting with his fellow HR Administrative Coordinator colleagues to discuss the improvement of procedures and guidelines for all administrative tasks done by the Student Programs Team.
