Results from the 2020-2021 Government of Canada Employment Equity in the Public Service of Canada report revealed that representation of persons with disabilities within the workforce is lower than the workforce availability. Although persons with disabilities exceed their workforce availability at the executive level, they continue to be overrepresented in the two lowest salary levels and under-represented in the two highest salary levels. In addition to the ongoing efforts to eliminate barriers to accessibility and inclusion of persons with disabilities in the public service, a formalized mentorship tool can be crucial in helping this equity deserving employee base accelerate their careers and achieve professional growth.

'''First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people face a number of barriers when navigating the governmental systems. Indigenous Services Canada's Strategic Plan 2020-2025 makes a commitment to implementing key actions from the Many Voices One Mind (MVOM) report. One of the five areas of focus in the MVOM report involves addressing Indigenous employees' training, development, and career advancement concerns. Moreover, the strategic plan also aims to increase the proportion of the ISC workforce made up of Indigenous employees.'''
