|FINTRAC
+
|CFIA
|Sarah Paquet was appointed Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) on November 18, 2020. As the head of Canada’s financial intelligence unit and anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing regulator, she is responsible for ensuring the Centre facilitates the detection, prevention and deterrence of money laundering, terrorist activity financing and threats to the security of Canada. In addition to leading FINTRAC, Ms. Paquet is the Chair of the Egmont Information Exchange Working Group, which is focused on improving information sharing among the world’s financial intelligence units.
+
|Sonia Dupuis has been a conflict resolution advisor with the CFIA's Office of Conflict Prevention and Resolution since March 8, 2021. She has worked for the federal government for over 22 years. Prior to joining the CFIA, Sonia was a mediator at Public Service and Procurement Canada and Health Canada.

+
A graduate of the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Civil Law, Sonia is also an accredited mediator with the Quebec Department of Justice, the Quebec Bar Association and a member of the Institut québécois de médiation et d'arbitrage (<nowiki>http://imaq.org</nowiki>), a regional affiliate of the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Canada. She has provided over 1500 hours of training in dispute resolution, including to the Outaouais Bar (Quebec Bar region), the Community of Federal Regulators, Public Services and Supply Canada, Health Canada and the private sector. She has been helping parties resolve workplace disputes between the private sector and governments for over 14 years. This includes a variety of regulatory disputes between pharmaceutical companies and Health Canada, commercial disputes arising from federal government contracts, exploring options with senior executives to resolve difficulties between their programs, and workplace disputes.

Before joining FINTRAC, Ms. Paquet held numerous leadership positions across the federal public service over the past 20 years. From 2018 to 2020, she served as the first Executive Vice-President at Shared Services Canada, providing leadership to the organization as it modernized the Government of Canada enterprise IT infrastructure and enabled digital services to Canadians.
+
Joining the Public Service of Canada, Sonia has practiced law in the private sector, where her skills and ability to see diverse points of view have helped her achieve results in even the most difficult cases. As a litigator and mediator with over 25 years of experience, she believes that even the most difficult experiences have something good to offer. Having a new perspective and looking for the opportunities for learning and growth that a situation offers allows us to redirect our energy and see the benefits of a solution even if it was not what we expected or wanted. She translates this into her work by inviting clients to question their assumptions, broaden their perspectives and explore new approaches.

Ms. Paquet attended the University of Ottawa, earning her Civil Law degree in 1993 and her Common Law degree in 2001. She serves as the Deputy Minister Champion for the University Ottawa and is focused on strengthening the relationship between the University and the Government of Canada, as well as facilitating student recruitment and enhancing student mental health. In 2021, Ms. Paquet received the Award for Commitment to the University, recognizing her as an outstanding alumna who has distinguished herself through her philanthropic activities for the University.
+
In addition to being a mediator, Sonia is also a coach and facilitator. She has been a guest speaker at various events, including Justice Canada, unions, and the Outaouais Bar. She has also been a member of the Outaouais Junior Bar Association, the Board of Directors of REACH (<nowiki>https://www.reach.ca/</nowiki>) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Pontiac Economic Development Corporation as the elected representative of the business members for 5 years and chaired the elections for the National Council of Federal Employees with Disabilities.

Ms. Paquet is also a strong advocate for women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and an inspiring speaker on the topics of leadership, innovation and inclusion. In 2020, she was named one of Canada’s most powerful women by the Women’s Executive Network (WXN), receiving the CIBC Executive Leaders distinction. In the same year, she also received the Public Sector Champion-Government award from Women in Communications and Technology (WCT), which recognizes those who are committed to gender diversity in Canada’s digital industries.

Please feel free to contact Sonia to discuss the session or just to say hello.
