NMSO-CSI Overview
The National Master Standing (NMSO) for Commercial Satellite Imagery (CSI) is coordinated by PSPC for the Government of Canada to procure imagery in support of its various mandates. It has been in place since 2012 and is refreshed every year by DND, NRCan, and PSPC in order to maintain and add new data providers. EODMS & NMSO-CSI
The Earth Observation Data Management System (EODMS) is the designated Government of Canada site for all commercial imagery procured through the NMSO for both provider delivery and user access.
Did you know that all Government of Canada (GoC) employees can have free access to NMSO Commercial Satellite Imagery (CSI) already purchased by the GoC available on EODMS? You need only send an account request to your Department NMSO point of contact (PoC) for your account approval. FAQ
I am not part of the Government of Canada, but I want access to NMSO-CSI imagery. What am I entitled to ?
Strictly speaking, as the NMSO-CSI is a standing offer between the Government of Canada and providers, Goc departments are not allowed to order imagery on behalf of other entities e.g. provinces, territories, universities. However, if you are working with a federal department and imagery is required in support of joint-initiative toward a GoC departmental mandate, then this is what the levels 1 and above are exactly in place for.
I received an email from an NMSO commercial satellite provider (CSP). How do I download my NMSO data (Government of Canada only)
Once an NMSO CSP delivers data to NRCan, a government employee can
- Do a simple search as per above: https://wiki.gccollab.ca/EODMS_FAQ#Searching
- For *download only* (data that EODMS cannot yet load e.g. PLEIADES) proceed directly to https://data.eodms-sgdot.nrcan-rncan.gc.ca/ and enter their EODMS username/password. After that the data can be found using the following convention: https://data.eodms-sgdot.nrcan-rncan.gc.ca/<department>/<satellite>/<sensor> (e.g. https://data.eodms-sgdot.nrcan-rncan.gc.ca/dfo/pleiades/pleiades)
