Welcome to the Mentoring Living Library / Bienvenue!

Come on in: All about the "Living Library"

The Mentoring Living Library is a grassroots initiative created by individuals from the NCRYPN and the Federal Youth Network, supported in partnership with GC Students, that provides young GofC professionals with the opportunity to informally connect with, and learn from, experienced employees.

In a 'Living Library', the belief is that everyone has a story and/or experiences to share. This 'Living Library' consists of mentors (or 'books') who are volunteers and have generously offered to share their time and individual stories with interested mentees. The purpose of a living library is to bring back the art of connecting with others by providing access to individuals who are willing to share their time, energy, and their stories. By checking out our living library, you are checking out the stories and experiences of a wide range of individuals in the Canadian public service.

This library is evergreen: 'Books' will continue to be added and removed over time.

Get your library card ready: How to 'check out' a mentor

Below, you will find all of the mentors participating in this living library as 'Books', along with their relevant details.

Mentees: In order to identify a 'Book' that interests you, you are welcome to scan through the collection on our shelf. When you find one who speaks to your interests and goals, you're ready for 'check out'! To borrow a 'Book', send them an email and schedule a one-on-one chat. The suggested amount of time for a chat is 30 minutes.

Just as you would with regular library books, please respect these Living Library 'Books'. Remember: they are volunteering their time and knowledge to you!

Want to join the library?

Mentors:

There are two ways to become a 'book' in our Living Library. You can:

  • Send us an email (emails at the bottom of the page); or
  • You can edit this page yourself and add yourself to our shelves with the follow steps!
    • Click the "Edit" button at the top of this page.
    • Scroll down to the Mentoring 'Books' section.
    • Click a cell in the table. At the side (row) and top (column) of this cell, you will see little arrows ( ">") pointing to the cell. If you click on this, it will give you an option to "Insert Above", "Insert Below", etc. Insert a row and fill out your information in order to book a Mentor 'Book' in our library!

Mentees:

You can join whenever and however you wish! Simply scroll the "library" below and check out a "book" that interests you!
