Harnessing the Value of Digital Credentials

The Enterprise Skilling and Strategy (ESS) team within the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) is piloting the use of digital credentials to recognize achievements across the Government of Canada.

What are Digital Badages?

Digital badges serve as virtual and verifiable symbols that demonstrate an individual's accomplishments. They contain a variety of metadata about why they were issued.

These badges are visually conveyed through icons and can be easily shared across multiple platforms, such as social media, email signatures or using QR codes.

In the context of the Digital Community within GC, digital badges will help us:

  • Motivate employees with tangible, verifiable recognition of their skills, knowledge and experience.
  • Apply a tell-us-once approach to how we assess, recruit, and promote talent.
  • Promote GC services to the digital community, such as awards, learning paths, and talent management.
