Digital Talent/Digital Skills

Defining and developing digital skills for all public servants

As part of the President of the Treasury Board’s Mandate Letter, the Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer (OCHRO) is developing a long-term, government-wide Public Service Skills Strategy to ensure that the public service has capacity to support Canadians in an increasingly changing world. This includes a strong emphasis on increasing modern digital skills for all public servants.

At OCIO, we are supporting this commitment by defining and supporting the development of digital skills all public servants need in a modern workforce.

Digital Competencies for all Public Servants

Digital competencies will define the necessary digital skills, knowledge, attributes, and behaviours required in a modern public service, and in turn, ensure all public servants and their leaders can work efficiently in the digital age.

  • How are digital skills defined?
  • How should digital skills-related data (e.g. inventory of digital skills) be managed
  • What are some of the best learning resources to learn digital skills?

Please let us know if you would like to get involved in a workshop or activity.

Digital Competencies Self-Assessment tool

The Digital Competencies Self-Assessment (DCSA) tool is designed to empower public servants by enabling them to assess their digital maturity based on the six Digital Competencies for all Public Servants. Upon completing the assessment, users will receive a tailored list of learning resources to support their development.

The DCSA product team has chosen to build on the existing Digital Maturity Self-Assessment tool previously developed by the CSPS Digital Academy which was based on the GC Digital Standard.

If you would like to contribute to the DCSA tool please check out our GCXchange page.
