Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation with Artificial Intelligence (rebroadcast) Every minute, there are at least 98,000 tweets posted, 60 million emails sent, 600 YouTube videos uploaded; 270,000 texts sent every second and 23 billion texts sent per day. Online sources allow many people and organizations to find and share information. Yet, how do we decipher if the information is accurate, misleading or biased? Only 21% of Canadians verify the accuracy of the information they find online.

This rebroadcast event further probes the concepts of misinformation and disinformation and shows how artificial intelligence, machine learning and other digital technologies can be used for good, to tackle and prevent misinformation and disinformation. Experts across the public service, private sector and academia share their stories and best practices.

Participants will learn about the challenges and risks they face when consuming information, and how to use artificial intelligence and other digital tools to distill reliable data and evidence that impact decision-making. This aligns with the Government of Canada's efforts to support a healthy digital information society that includes building citizen resilience against misinformation and disinformation.

While you watch the rebroadcast, connect to the Live Chat and share your views with colleagues across the public service to get a sense of their thoughts on this topic and see where you can collaborate.

Tackling Data Bias in Artificial Intelligence Artificial intelligence (AI) plays an important role in our everyday lives. To use it properly, we must understand the data, which forms the foundation of any AI algorithm.

As government organizations continue to explore the uses of AI, we must tackle the inherent data biases in AI systems, applications and business processes. We must ensure that the data powering AI systems is accurate and reliable and that it does not inadvertently harm specific groups of people.

Join the event to continue the ongoing discussion around the risks of data bias. The focus this time will be on preventing and spotting algorithmic biases, removing erroneous assumptions in AI systems, and exploring the legal ramifications. Participants will learn how to develop robust data governance structures that foster responsible use and development of AI based on the shared values of diversity and inclusion.

Annual Digital Open Government Forum: The Future of Work - Shaping the Public Service of Tomorrow Together In less than two years, the global pandemic changed the future of work forever. For example, 83% of workers worldwide identified a hybrid model as the most optimal for the future of work. What was once an unthinkable way of working for many organizations, including the public service, has now become an immediate reality.

As the public service and other employers are preparing for the future of work, how do we shift, rethink traditional processes, and reinvent the way we work to ensure that we are ready for those changes?

Maintaining Open and Safe Cyber Security Design for All Cyber threats can come from anywhere within an organization, and as a result, cyber security must be a shared responsibility. A recent study of 2,000 Chief Information Officers found that 61% of them increased investment in cyber security this year. Organizations are looking ahead in preparation for a post-pandemic future where remote work, cloud computing, increased automation, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and working in the open will be the norm.

Yet, there remains a lack of understanding about the ever-present cyber risks in the open way of working online. This does not imply that we should avoid online activity. However, public servants and citizens must have opportunities to learn how to become more cyber savvy, resilient, vigilant and safe as they navigate the online world.

As part of Cyber Security Awareness Month, join this event to learn more about cyber security and some its challenges, including how to:

  • anticipate cyber risks
  • be ready when incidents happen
  • put safety first, particularly when it comes to keeping data secure
  • cultivate a culture of open cyber security and shared risk; and
  • adopt a holistic approach that is accessible, inclusive and secure for all.

How to use Accelerators to Drive Innovation in the Public Service The accelerator community, though dispersed, is growing and driving innovation worldwide. While their meaning, impact and value have yet to be fully realized, accelerators are a valuable asset.

Though accelerators have largely been associated with start-ups and the private sector, the public service is tapping into their benefits and seeing positive results. There are a variety of accelerators that offer short-term programs that provide hands-on learning experiences with mentorship and coaching, to promote growth and develop new skills. They are opening up new opportunities for governments and businesses to innovate, disrupt, transform and build support, relationships and networks, as well as bolster economic growth and prosperity.

Join the discussion and attend the live demonstration to find out how you can be part of an accelerator program, and explore why they are important instruments for public servants.
