A thriving Official Languages Program is essential to implementing the Official Languages Act. One of the low-cost ways we can actively engage our English- and French-speaking colleagues in our efforts to promote both official languages is through language mentoring. But how can we do this effectively? In this workshop, I'll share with you the steps I took to launch a Language Mentorship Program successfully that supports my work as a Person Responsible for Official Languages in my institution.

Official Languages Community of Practice
Employees are also supported and encouraged to maintain their skills through the region’s Official Languages Community of Practice, which provides learners and language enthusiasts with access to a safe space where they can learn, practice, improve and refine their skills, regardless of their proficiency.

Today, we have a wide range of studies and data on factors that contribute to the communities’ vitality of OLMCs and to the promotion of official languages in Canada. Based on these studies, the Canadian Heritage Official Languages Branch has developed two frameworks on vitality factors and promotion of linguistic duality to guide its interventions.

The Power of Bilingual Coaching Circles
Bilingual coaching circles aim to help public servants creatively address the challenges they face, while enabling them to develop language skills as part of their job. These coaching circles also create dynamic partnerships and model or serve as examples of bilingual meetings that could be offered to create a more inclusive culture.
