We wanted to increase awareness of Infobase, but first make sure people can actually use it. We wanted to make sure we were aware of what they were doing not only to redesign the InfoBase but also to be aware when creating new products.

●    Research to understand the issues and user needs:

○    Realized the only way to access InfoBase from Google was if people searched the term ‘InfoBase’ but a lot of people don’t know that it exists so they weren’t searching on that term, they were searching on different keywords

○    Realized it was hard for people to find what they were looking for from the landing page of InfoBase

○    We looked at what other libraries/databases were doing, discovered they all had filters/labels/search

○    We found that there was a wide range of tasks that people are trying to do from the InfoBase

○    We made sure it respected the Canada.ca design system while having some distinctions to look like a self-contained product

○    We also removed the search field from the header as there is a search field within the database

○    Did some usability testing to see if the design actually helped people find products and did refinements based on what was observed

○    Added robust metadata and FAQ structured data to help with SEO before going live, also added Google Analytics code

We wanted to increase awareness of Infobase, but first make sure people can actually use it. We wanted to make sure we were aware of what they were doing not only to redesign the InfoBase but also to be aware when creating new products.
