2. Revisit alerts and alert fatigue - Peter Smith (DTO)
There is specific guidance for how to use alerts for COVID-related content and for service disruptions.
Too many alerts, and alerts that are not consistent with the government-wide approach create confusion for users.
Please follow the guidance provided:
- How to use alerts in a crisis
- Using alerts (Google slides) (PowerPoint)
- Moving from announcements to web content (Google slides) (PowerPoint)
Alerts are temporary. COVID is no longer alert. People are getting tired of alerts. Alert fatigue is real. At the beginning of COVID, everything was new and alerts made sense. To be effective, we need to phase out alerts that aren’t necessary anymore and integrate the key messages into web content.
Friendly competition to move alerts along. We are encouraging web teams to change their alerts. We hope these presentations can provide you with some support to brief your senior management.
Looking for ways to spark activity in the ways alerts are handled?
We created a new Slack Channel: #alerts-challenge
We will look at adding alert management and lifecycle into the guidance.
