Judy Booth Award for
Excellence in Access to Information and Privacy

This award recognizes individuals and teams for outstanding achievement in access to information and privacy (ATIP) in the Government of Canada. You will find more information in About the Award and Participation Guidelines.

Nomination period starts: Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 9:00 PDT (Pacific Daylight Time).
Nomination period ends: Monday, September 29, 2025, at 16:00 PDT (Pacific Daylight Time).

⭐ History of the Judy Booth Award

The Award is in memoriam of Judy Booth - to recognize her embodiment of excellence in government services. Her innovative ideas, unwavering commitment, and pioneering work in privacy set her apart[1]. While Booth retired from the National Capital Commission, she was still assisting in the Access to Information and Privacy Office. Before 2019, the Award was known as the ​Chief Information Officer Community Award for Excellence in Access to Information and Privacy.

The Judy Booth Award recognizes public servant(s) for outstanding achievement in improving service delivery, transparency and collaboration related to access to information and privacy (ATIP) in the Government of Canada.

⭐ Criteria

  • Criterion 1: Supports the continued growth and improvement of colleagues in the ATIP community. 
  • Criterion 2: Demonstrates a passion for service delivery in ATIP requests.  
  • Criterion 3: Innovates to improve a digital or in-person ATIP service. 
  • Criterion 4: Improves service delivery, transparency and collaboration related to ATIP requests in the Government of Canada. 

⭐ Nomination Process

Note that the selection committee does not take into consideration any elements extraneous to the information provided in the nomination text.

Eligibility

  • The awards are open to public servants working in the Government of Canada.
  • Nominees must have been public servants at any point during the 2023 to 2025 fiscal years. (April 2023 to March 2025)
  • Team nominations may include members from several Government of Canada institutions. Teams must not exceed 15 individuals.

Who can submit a nomination?

  • Any Government of Canada employee may submit a nomination.
  • Each individual or team nomination must be endorsed by a peer or a senior leadership before being submitted.
  • Nomination forms that are missing required information will not be evaluated, and the selection committee will not look at additional documents or information.
