Toddcast is a podcast "for, and about, public servants"[1] which premiered on August 9, 2015. It aims to broadcast informative, inspirational, and humorous content to the public service of Canada, emphasizing the realities of life for employees in the federal government. Episodes have addressed issues such as workplace discrimination, mental health, conflict management, and being a visible minority in the workplace.
The podcast is streamable from toddlyons.ca or can be subscribed to via RSS, Google Play Music, iTunes, and Stitcher.
Reception
The debut was received with much enthusiasm. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]
In response to Season 1 Episode 2, Clerk of the Privy Council Janice Charette wrote, "Thank you for sharing Darlene’s inspiring story #WeAreHighPerforming"[9] / "Merci de partager l’histoire inspirante de Darlene #très performants"[10] and shared the podcast links on Twitter.
The UK Civil Service and The Public Servant have also tweeted Toddcast content[11], with the latter featuring audio content on their website.[12][13][14][15][16]
Todd Lyons, as the host of Toddcast, was a guest on BPTV and featured as a book in the Human Library during the second annual Blueprint 2020 Interdepartmental Innovation Fair.[17] Unlike the other books that were part of that library, those conversations were recorded for release on Toddcast (Season 2, Episodes 5-8).
The podcast received national recognition when Todd was awarded the 2017 Champion of Mental Health Award from the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health for the show's coverage of mental health in the workplace. Todd was introduced by The Honourable Scott Brison. [18] [19] [20] [21] The story was covered by on web, [22] [23] radio, [24] [25] [26] and television. [27] Clerk of the Privy Council Michael Wernick also recognized the achievement. [28] [29] [30] and Todd received a Public Service Award of Excellence [31] and special mention in the Annual Report to the Prime Minister.[32]
