An understanding of when the Directive on Automated Decision-Making applies and how to meet its requirements can support the ethical and responsible use of these systems. In particular, the explanation requirement and the guidance (Guidance on Service and Digital, section 4.5.3.) from the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat on model selection are of high relevance to data scientists.</p>
