BEN/REN was formed in July 2020 to support Black executives in the federal public service, while working with the Government of Canada to address issues of systemic and anti-Black racism with a view to making the Canadian public service an institution that is representative at all levels, recognizes talent and leverages it to better serve all Canadians. BEN/REN currently has over 80 members Canada-wide with a six-member interim steering committee (ISC) leading initiatives and engagement. IRCC Associate DM, Caroline Xavier is the BEN/REN DM Champion and RCMP, Chief HR Officer, Gail Johnson is the BEN/REN ADM Champion. We are also supported by three DM Ally Champions: PCSP DM Bill Matthews, DND DM Jody Thomas, and Secretary of the Treasury Board, Peter Wallace.
