Spring Forward: Reflect on your professional growth with NMC activities

As spring approaches, March is the perfect time to reflect on your professional growth. Looking ahead to 2025-2026, remember that participating in NMC activities, such as Managers Connect events, virtual sessions, peer coaching circles, mentoring sessions, and consultations, can be included in your Learning and Development Plan, Performance Agreement, and Talent Management Plan. Volunteering with the NMC further supports your development and connects you with colleagues across the federal public service. (see the full list of eligible activities here).

Best of all, these activities are offered at no cost, providing valuable opportunities to engage, connect, and collaborate on key issues affecting your leadership role.

Top 3 Things Managers should know about ... 'Digital and Data Tool Adoption'

Join Sarah Brickell, manager of the Data Management and Adoption Office at the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, as she shares her experiences with adopting new technologies like Teams, Power BI, and Copilot to create a digital and data culture focused on efficient decision-making. Top 3 Things Managers should know about ... Digital and Data Tool Adoption. Sarah will discuss the importance of embracing digital transformation, the cultural aspects of tool adoption, and how to engage every employee on your team effectively.  Taking into account perspectives from both National Headquarters and regional offices as well as highlighting the differences between working in an agency versus a core department, this Top 3 will be applicable to every manager. The session will conclude with a Q&A, allowing for further discussion and engagement. Please note that the event will not be recorded.

Decompression Program – Health Canada’s Employee Assistance Services (EAS)

Have you been experiencing significant workplace stress? Consider the Decompression Program!

Health Canada’s innovative Decompression Program can support the mental health and well-being of managers, employees and executives who have experienced significant workplace stress.

About the Program:  

  • Two-week program taken as education leave
  • Includes training, group work and time away to process, rest and recover
  • Virtual sessions led by mental health professionals
  • Offered by Health Canada on a cost recovery basis

How to access the Program:

  • Join an interdepartmental session: You and/or members of your team can complete the Registration Form to get started. Separate sessions are recommended for those in direct reporting relationships.
  • Organize a cohort: The [Delivery team] can work with you and your management team to organize sessions just for your organization, branch or directorate. This option can offer an economy of scale. A one-week version can also be made available.

The Federal Youth Network (FYN) is seeking manager- or executive-level mentors to engage, share their experience, and support new and young public servants and students in their career journeys.

  • Future Leaders Forums: A leadership development day in 9 cities with expert-led discussions and networking, focused on leadership skills.

Good news, once again this year, federal employees will have the opportunity to participate in the Défi Entreprises 2025. Défi Entreprises is a turnkey initiative that aims to promote physical and mental health within companies, while also being motivating and fun.

This year, you are all invited to participate as a team from the Quebec Federal Council (QFC). This interdepartmental initiative allows all interested federal employees to join the event!

Come and get moving to one of these two challenges: Saturday, May 10th in Montreal or Saturday, June 7th only in Quebec City.
