Updates

Footer implementation

The window of time to get the new footer in place was March 6-17.

  • Action:  If you don’t expect to implement during this window, please notify us at dto.btn@tbs-sct.gc.ca – we’d like to know if there are any issues folks are encountering.

No meeting on Wednesday

We’re canceling in anticipation of absences for Ontario March Break.

Federal budget on March 28

Several newsroom items must go live just seconds or minutes from the Federal Budget. Please avoid posting anything to the newsroom between 3:30 and 4:30 on Budget Day.

Federal/Provincial/Territorial (FPT) meeting on March 21

Agenda is web governance, specifically, the different governance models in place and what can be learned from best practices. If you have governance in place for your own web products and you want to come share or be part of the discussion, let DTO know and we can send you the invite.

Roundtable

Video questions:

  • What are departments’ archiving practices for videos given how many more are being produced to support social media? (example: Instagram reels)
    • Action: Peter Smith (DTO) to investigate the policy on retention and archiving of social media videos
  • Square frame videos don’t work great with the WET container/player. Any tips on these?
    • Principal Publisher: there’s nothing in WET at the moment for these cases, looking for demand to dedicate resources to move from landscape to vertical, which seems to be the most common layout in video products these days.
  • Are videos considered supplementary or unique content? Does there have to be an equivalent version of the video itself on the site for all social media videos, or are those simply a tool to drive traffic to a web page where the substance of the content lives, and therefore there is no need to create an equivalent version of the video for the web site? If it depends on the nature of the video, where do we draw the line?
  • Action: Peter Smith (DTO) to follow up on a reply.
