Optimization priorities
We will be focusing on improving our most-used web content on Canada.ca so that it’s easy to find and understand for Canadians. This means improving the findability of content for ‘top tasks’ – the tasks Canadians most frequently try to complete on Canada.ca
Optimization process
The optimization process will involve a multidisciplinary team, including: project management, branch content owners, digital content designers, web writers, usability testers, program/policy subject matter experts, web publishers and IT personnel (if web apps are involved). In most cases, the process will go as follows:
- Discovery research: the existing evidence is gathered and synthesized into insights and hypotheses to produce scenarios for baseline testing
- Baseline testing: moderated usability tests are done with Canadians trying the scenarios on the existing webs content
- Design and prototyping: sprints are used to iteratively design, build and test a prototype that solves the problems seen in discovery and baseline testing
- Validation testing: the baseline test (usability testing) is repeated on the new prototype site with a different but similar set of Canadian participants
- Prototype launch: if the validation test shows a measurable improvement, then the successful aspects of the prototypes are integrated and released at the earliest opportunity.
