Notes and action items

DTO updates

  • Shared training: We lost the chat from April 5 when people volunteered to share training resources, so we’ve created a sign up sheet. Please add your name and we’ll reach out to collect any resources you can add to our shared training space.
  • Labour disruption pages: Strike mandate has been announced so the Web  executive board will be meeting regularly until things are resolved. Please make sure your executive team is looped in. Contact M-R Charbonneau if you need to.

Show and share: Training for internal stakeholders

Gérard Dicks Pellerin (NRCan)

Web orientation and training

3 modules:

  1. Why: Policies of the web - focus on plain language requirements and what happens if you don’t apply them
  2. How: Key web design concepts, approaches with good and bad examples, applying the Canada.ca style guide
  3. Tools: Creating accessible Word documents

Target audience is content creators - policy, program, comms advisors, social media

Currently using new accessibility requirements as an incentive to get more people trained

Feedback from participants drives updates to the training.

Plain language community of practice

Chris Colter

  • Ongoing monthly community of practice meetings where people share tips and tricks
  • New pilot project: Office hours 1 or 2 times a month where people can go through something they are working on and bounce ideas off someone else
    • Looking for volunteers to be either a teacher or a student
    • Co-writing opportunity where people can practice their craft

If you want to participate in the community of practice or the pilot project, email chris.coulter@tc.gc.ca.
