LEARN MORE! Empowering Indigenous Talent: Milestones Achieved in the Apprenticeship Program

The IT Apprenticeship Program for Indigenous Peoples is a Government of Canada initiative specifically aimed at addressing employment gaps for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in the IT field.

All successful graduates are issued a digital certificate at the completion of the program that fulfills the alternative educational requirement of the IT minimum Qualification Standard and enables career mobility across the GC.

As of September 30, 2023, the IT Apprenticeship Program for Indigenous Peoples has marked significant achievements:

  • 123 Indigenous peoples hired
  • 20% increase in representation across 28 federal departments, agencies, and Crown corporations
  • 40% boost in Indigenous women and gender-diverse representation
  • 35% of apprentices identify as Indigenous women or gender-diverse individuals
  • 492 applications were submitted from approximately 200 Indigenous communities and Nations across Canada
  • 27% of apprentices are working or living in Indigenous communities
  • $2.1M injected into local Indigenous economies through apprenticeship opportunities
  • 5 apprentices have successfully completed the program, earning a digital credential recognized by the CIO of the Government of Canada.

These achievements reflect the program's commitment to empowering Indigenous talent in the IT sector and fostering a more inclusive and diverse workforce.
