What is Activity-Based Working?

Activity-Based Working (ABW) is a design concept that recognizes that through the course of any day, employees engage in many different activities and that they need and can choose different workplace settings to support these activities. It’s a modern way to work that uses the technology to allow more flexibility and works in conjunction with a shared seating model.

The 3 dimensions of ABW: People, Technology and Space

These interdependent elements come together in the vision for ESDC Workplace:

Misconceptions: WHAT IS NOT ABW?
It is different from an open-plan office
As the name implies, open-plan offices are just open. ABW is different in the sense that it provides a mix of both open and enclosed workspaces, available to all.

It is not just an interior design concept

There is a strong design component to ABW, as it usually requires new furniture and spatial changes, but the concept is primarily about organizational and cultural change.

ABW empowers employees and teams to:

  • Take control of their work environment
  • Choose the best work setting to perform tasks

Based of the privacy, focus or collaboration level your task requires, you can choose between different individual workpoints

To facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas, different types of interactive spaces and technologies are offered:
