What is this?

The Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) Indigenous Reconciliation Hub provides information for employees on ESDC programming relevant to Indigenous Peoples, as well as access to Indigenous training, tools, and departmental networks.

ESDC works to improve the standard of living and quality of life for all Canadians by developing, managing and delivering social programs and services. ESDC manages programs specific to Indigenous Peoples, such as Indigenous Labour Market programs, as well as programs of general application that also benefit Indigenous Peoples, for example, the Canada Child Benefit. The ESDC Portfolio includes the Labour Program, Service Canada and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

What is the Indigenous Coordination and Engagement Division?

The Indigenous Coordination and Engagement (ICE) Division was established in February 2017 to serve as focal point for ESDC’s efforts to advance reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and promote their self-determination.

Composed of two groups, the ICE Division is responsible for: • Building and maintaining relationships with key national Indigenous partners; • Increasing departmental knowledge and understanding of Indigenous realities and aspirations; • Informing and supporting increased coordination of departmental engagement of Indigenous partners, governments and communities; and • Ensuring the Department upholds and respects modern treaty and self- government agreement obligations.

Can you help?

This information hub is still undergoing active development.

Once complete, it will be an evergreen source of material on ESDC's interests and activities related to Indigenous Peoples, as well as tools and best practices useful to the whole of Government.

If you have material or expertise that you could volunteer to this initiative, please contact NC-ICE-MAC-GD@hrsdc-rhdcc.gc.ca.
