Indigenous Reconciliation at ESDC

What is Proactive Publication?

The government committed to raise the bar for openness and transparency and is taking steps to become "open by default," by sharing an ever increasing amount of government data and information with Canadians.

To accomplish this, Bill C-58 would add a new part to the Access to Information Act that requires institutions to proactively publish specific information known to be of interest to the public, and which provides greater transparency and accountability for the use of public funds. More specifically, the proposed amendments to the Access to Information Act would put into law proactive disclosure practices previously only covered by federal policy, and introduce important new disclosure requirements that would apply the Access to Information Act to a wider range of organizations.

All government institutions subject to the ATIA

ESDC's Indigenous Coordination and Engagement (ICE) Division maintains an Indigenous Engagement Look-Ahead Calendar of key, high-level engagement activities with, or related to, Indigenous Peoples.

If you are aware of any relevant meetings that you feel should be included in this look-ahead in the future, please share them with annemarie.lefebvre@hrsdc-rhdcc.gc.ca

This information hub is still undergoing active development.

Once complete, it will be an evergreen source of material on ESDC's interests and activities related to Indigenous Peoples, as well as tools and best practices useful to the whole of Government.

-ESDC works to improve the standard of living and quality of life for all Canadians by developing, managing and delivering social programs and services. ESDC manages programs specific to Indigenous Peoples, such as Indigenous Labour Market programs, as well as programs of general application that also benefit Indigenous Peoples, for example, the Canada Child Benefit. The ESDC Portfolio includes the Labour Program, Service Canada and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
