  • Messages went out to Heads of Comms over the past few weeks about two new directors general to expand our communications strategy into sustained effort.  Welcome Laura Wesley (Director General of Communications Responsible for COVID Response Priorities) and Brian Laghi (Director General of Communications Responsible for COVID Response Planning).

3. Real-time case number updates- Melissa Teasdale (Principal Publisher)/Michael Lawson (Health Canada)

  • Presented on the collaboration that is being done on automating the reporting of numbers of COVID cases on Canada.ca
  • COVID pages are highly visited and should be the authoritative source
  • Information has to be accurate, timely and consistent
  • Manual entry was subject to human error labour-intensive for teams
  • Principal Publisher already had a tool to use for 1-800 wait times and Winterlude
  • This solution is now used to update COVID numbers in real time across all pages using API
  • The numbers are updated in real-time automatically
  • Entered in one spot and now all different places pull in the numbers at the same time
  • These numbers are used in briefings
  • Gives consistently and credibility to all that we do
  • This is a solution that can be used by other departments if they have a similar need
  • Great story of collaboration and sharing resources

Challenges/Lessons Learned
