In March 2019, on behalf of the Government of Canada (GC), SSC acquired Microsoft 365 (M365) for all GC employees, as part of the SSC’s Digital Communications and Collaboration (DCC) program and to provide the next generation of Email Services in the cloud. There is a growing appetite among all Departments/Agencies to access digital services beyond email (e.g., Teams and OneDrive). Products in Scope: Exchange Online, OneDrive, and Teams.

Roles and Responsibilities:

SSC ($):

• Provides supporting services for network, directory services, email, mobile, and required infrastructure in support of connectivity to the M365 platform

• Jointly responsible and accountable with the partner for Email as a service, even post-migration to M365
 +
• SSC and Partner will share administrative responsibilities of the Exchange Online as per established allocation of responsibilities

• Implement adoption and change management and training

Application Modernization funding ($):

Following the deployment of the above-mentioned core elements, a department may request AppMod funding to cover for activities such as:

• Upgrades to E5 licences (enhanced security, analytics and voice capabilities) as is pertains to replacing an existing application
 +
• Build/re-architect, test, integrate and register with MS Azure AD as it pertains to refactoring existing applications
 +
• Upskills knowledge (implement or beef up Cloud Centre of Expertise)
 +
• Security activities (Security Assessment and Accreditation, Interim/Full authority to operate)
 +

Application Modernization is about modernizing existing application. Using O365 to retire and replace an existing application should be the scope.

02-07-2020 The Canada School of Public Service (CSPS) Digital Academy is offering a virtual learning program, "Getting Started with Cloud Computing" to equip public servants across Canada with the confidence and expertise required to use cloud services to meet the needs of citizens. You will learn the cloud value proposition as well as use cases and various services available through AWS cloud. The pilot program includes 12 hours of learning (3hrs of learning per day for 4 days). To participate, please register below and specify which time works best for you. Going forward, as we improve on our processes and as a project management best practice in alinement with the Policy on the Planning and Management of Investments (https://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pol/doc-eng.aspx?id=32593), we will require departments to fill out a business case to help provide context for the investment decision, to define viable options and recommended decisions which would describe benefits, cost, risks, timeframe, change requirements, impact on stakeholder etc. Please contact us if you wish to see an example of this template filled out.
