In our family we love Christmas and always joked that as my last name is Noël my father is the père Noël.

Christmas at our house is usually unusual. I am ready for Christmas by September. I bake and cook 3 months straight before Christmas, with my friends and family, then on the 24<sup>th</sup> and 25<sup>th</sup> we play games, craft, listen to music & dance, eat lots of food and build a big fire outside and roast marshmallows all in our pyjamas.

Chez nous, Noël est généralement particulier. Je suis prête pour Noël dès septembre. Je fais de la pâtisserie et de la cuisine 3 mois d'affilée avant Noël, avec mes amis et ma famille, puis le 24 et le 25, nous jouons à des jeux, nous bricolons, nous écoutons de la musique et nous dansons, nous mangeons beaucoup de nourriture et nous faisons un grand feu dehors pour faire griller des guimauves, tout cela en pyjama.

| colspan="2" |In 2020, my husband an I both lost our fathers.  Cory’s father passed away from a massive heart attack in January 2020 and my father passed away within a few weeks of discovering he had an aggressive lung cancer in December 2020.  Let’s just say 2020 was not our usual happy holidays as we are just so sad and in shock with what 2020 had dealt everyone. There was no baking, cooking, laughter, fires or games.  Instead I crafted these ornaments for our mothers in honor of our fathers so they could always be with us.  And we had a modest Christmas celebration sharing gifts and memories. No one was in the mood for our usual celebrations or shenanigans. // En 2020, mon mari et moi avons tous deux perdu nos pères.  Le père de Cory est décédé d'une crise cardiaque massive en janvier 2020 et mon père est décédé quelques semaines après avoir découvert qu'il avait un cancer du poumon agressif en décembre 2020.  Disons simplement que 2020 n'a pas été nos joyeuses vacances habituelles, car nous sommes tellement tristes et sous le choc de ce que 2020 nous a fait subir. Il n'y a pas eu de pâtisserie, de cuisine, de rires, de feux ou de jeux.  Au lieu de cela, j'ai fabriqué ces ornements pour nos mères en l'honneur de nos pères afin qu'ils puissent toujours être avec nous.  Et nous avons eu une modeste célébration de Noël en partageant des cadeaux et des souvenirs. We are hoping that 2021 will be a return on to the path to our old celebrations but the emptiness is clearly still with us as I am still not ready for Christmas, no cooking done and the decorations are still in the garage.  We are hoping to be able to start this weekend.

In honour of the 1 year anniversary of my father’s death (December 7) my mom and I baked a little.  Please note my mom does not bake at all so this was more funny than anything, but it was a good start to the Christmas baking. Mom was wearing my dad’s apron, so he laughed with us. // Nous espérons que 2021 sera un retour sur le chemin de nos anciennes célébrations mais le vide est clairement encore avec nous car je ne suis toujours pas prête pour Noël, aucune cuisine faite et les décorations sont toujours dans le garage.  Nous espérons pouvoir commencer ce week-end.

Maman portait le tablier de mon père, alors il a ri avec nous.
