Peer Coaching Circles (PCC)

Small, peer‑based groups of managers, supervisors, and team leads that follow a structured coaching process, guided by a trained facilitator or co‑facilitators.

Each session focuses on one coachee presenting a real-life challenge, with members rotating into this role over time. Through disciplined listening and thoughtful, open‑ended, non‑leading questions, peers support the coachee to reflect on their challenge, deepen their thinking, and surface their own insights. The coachee leads the content—identifying their own clarity, possibilities, and actions—with the facilitator guiding the process and peers contributing disciplined listening and quality questions.

Interdepartmental co-development group

Groups of colleague managers who collaborate by presenting real workplace situations and sharing their perspectives to improve their practices. Sessions are offered in either French or English and are facilitated by an experienced manager who applies a structured approach. This method is widely recognized in management and leadership development environments.

Practical Guide for Aspiring Executives (pdf file)

This practical guide is the result of a partnership between the NMC and the Association of Professional Executives of the Public Service of Canada (APEX).

While the content is largely based on the APEX Practical Guide for New Executives, it has been adapted to suit the broader needs of the middle management community, with a special focus on leadership assessment and readiness for an executive role, as well as tangible tips and advice on how to prepare for competitions at the EX level.
