Accessibility plans and central index on open.canada.ca

The collection for accessibility plans is on Open Government. You should fill out metadata on Open Gov so your plans show up in that collection. So far there are 19 departments in there but everyone who publishes an accessibility plan should be in there.

Action: If you haven’t yet added your departmental accessibility plan in there please do so. There are instructions on how to do this in the accessibility template guidance under the Annex section:

If you need any help figuring out how to post on Open Canada, reach out to Damian Laverty: Damian.Laverty@tbs-sct.gc.ca

Footer implementation

We are looking at a two-week window at the beginning of March (March 6-17) to implement the footer across as many web pages as possible. Please start talking to your Communications teams and IT teams to start working out your plan on this. We are giving this direction in the Web manager’s email. The guidance is all live now on:

Principal Publisher is happy to answer any questions you may have about code on AEM. Principal Publisher will be in touch directly with everyone who has a contextualized contact link already in the footer.

Tomorrow’s AEM release will let you play with the footer but not implement it yet.

We would prefer that everyone launches their new footer in that March window, but if you have to launch beforehand because of demands we won’t stop you from going ahead.

Layered theme navigation

We’re working on a new template for theme pages. We’re still doing design work and testing but it’s part of the evolution of how navigation works on Canada.ca. It’s a multi-step approach. You can find a summary of all upcoming navigation changes in our blog post:

Usability testing and research done on task success survey and page feedback tool

The guidance for the task success survey is a bit scattered right now. We know task success survey work is often a ‘side of the desk’ duty so we wanted to help you analyze the comments more easily. Based on feedback from the community, about the current guidance we’ve created an updated prototype:

We tested out the prototype with web managers, web advisors and a data analyst. If you have any suggestions for improvement on the prototype you can reach out to Lana Stewart via Slack or email: lana.stewart@tbs-sct.gc.ca

The results viewer isn’t available yet as we still have some security and privacy concerns to work through. We will let you know the ETA on that once we know.

Roundtable

  • What are your web publishers classified as?
    • AS-2 publishers code
    • IS-03,4,5 only do web communications advice and very rarely code as most do not have coding skills
    • Web publishers are IS-3 and IS-4
    • Web publishers are IT-02
    • Web publishers are IS-03 and GT-04 for “full publishers”
    • GT-3 and IS-02 for junior
    • GT-04
    • Classification of DND’s web publishers came back as GT-03 from classification board
  • How do we create dummy data (ie. SIN numbers, phone numbers, etc) for testing in authenticated spaces? Is there a process and is there a place to store it? If you have suggestions or questions, reach out to Celeste Côté at celeste.cote@servicecanada.gc.ca
