|| Research shows that mentorship is a priority for employees who identify as visible minorities

In a 2017 study,  researchers found that women and minorities were more likely to say that mentoring was an important aspect of their career. Among the findings, the survey found that of the 27% of respondents who said their organizations offer formal mentoring programs, nearly three-fourths (74%) of minority respondents participated – compared with 65% of respondents overall – indicating that formalizing the mentoring experience can be a key tool in helping this important employee base accelerate their careers and achieve professional growth.

We invite you to explore the list of living books and mentorship opportunities facilitated by the Visible Minority Working Group.

Mentorship Opportunities

Speed Mentorship

Speed mentoring Icon.png

Speed Mentoring is a series of short, focused conversations about specific questions. Mentees rotate to several mentors over the course of session or meeting, provided time to share information and seek insight. The Mentorship database can be a great tool for event organizers or networks looking to provide engagement opportunities for employees.

Micro Mentorship

Micro Mentoring.png

Micro-mentoring is an innovative approach to mentoring that allows opportunities for employees to seek guidance from individuals that could be within or outside of their division or department, for a specific, well-defined need over a short period of time (typically one or two 1-hour long meetings).

Job Shadowing

Job Shadowing Icon.png

Job shadowing is a type of on-the-job training that allows an interested employee to follow and closely observe another employee performing the role. Virtually, employees will have the opportunity to experience a day in the life of another employee, attending a virtual meeting and/or supporting daily tasks and projects. In addition, the individual being shadowed gets valuable experience outlining their work, which will support their own career development.
