5. Carousels

[Stewart] (DTO)

  • We were tasked with trying to make ArriveCAN more visible on the web
  • The simple switch from a carousel to a feature made an enormous impact immediately
  • In the first weekend after the switch, the click through rate increased by 14X
  • Over a longer stretch of time, this trend continued - 13X more people continued to use the feature
  • This supports our direction to use features instead of carousels
    • ArriveCAN: From carousel to feature on travel.gc.ca
    • Blog: Avoid promotional carousels, improve web content

6. Alerts

Lana Stewart (DTO)

  • In a blog post coming soon, we are going to talk about news releases going out before content

Updated the guidance pattern based on research.

Minor updates include:

  • an example of an alert for a service or policy change with an effective date
  • refine the definition and provide more specific guidance about keeping alert text brief
  • removing alerts as soon as possible
  • limiting the number of alerts on a page.
