Definition

Exemplar and Reference Architectures are architectural artifacts and best practices that can be re-used by organizations to accelerate their architecture design process. ​

Repository

The repository of Exemplar and Reference Architectures have been vetted by the GC EA CoP as architectural artifacts that have characteristics of reusability. The repository facilitates knowledge sharing across organizations. ​

1. Grants and Contributions Exemplar architecture​

Description:​

Tri-agency Grants Management Solution Endorsed at GC EARB, April 21, 2022​. NRCan's Green Building, Fuel Diversification, Billion Trees and Greener Homes - Grants Management Solutions, last endorsement at GC EARB on Nov 17, 2022.

Both departments use different platforms, but have a good re-usable

The target state architecture will include a user-centric solution that supports the full grants management lifecycle, providing:​

  • an online and end-to-end solution which provides a single-window platform for all three agencies while respecting privacy;​
  • intuitive and easy to use tools integrated within the platform;​
  • simplified, harmonized, streamlined and automated processes;​
  • a modern look/feel that meets the standards of excellence expected by researchers, institutional administrators and Agency staff; ​
  • a more efficient, interoperable, accessible, secure and usable solution capable of supporting the requirements of the Policy on Service and Digital​

2. M365 as IM Exemplar or reference architecture​

Description:​

GC EA has been working on creating a draft M365 Reference Architecture as a system that manages Information based on GC EARB presentations by five M365 pathfinders. The draft M365 Reference Architecture was initially presented at the GC EA Community of Practice (CoP) on Feb 3, 2022 and updates were presented on July 21, 2022. Further updates will be presented to GC EA CoP as information becomes available.

The target state architecture will include user-centric solution that supports the key features in the Information Management lifecyle, some more advanced than others, providing:​

  • Content Centralization ;​
  • Live Collaboration;​
  • Sharing;​
  • Use Anywhere; ​
  • Content auto-routing, auto-classification;
  • Automated life cycle management;
  • Standardized / common procedures and processes;

3. Cloud to Cloud Direct Connection Exemplar

Description:​

Public Safety Firearms Buyback Program was endorsed at GC EARB, Aug 11, 2022​

The target state architecture includes a Cloud-to-Cloud direct connection solution that could be leveraged by the GC community, providing:​

  • reduced the unnecessary usage of cloud-to-ground bandwidth;​
  • more robust, but secured solution;​
  • simplified, harmonized and streamlined processes.

4. Service Management Exemplar / Reference Architecture

Description:​

SSC, PSPC and CFIA presented their versions of Service Management to GC EARB, Aug 11, 2022​

The Target Architecture of these different solutions provide 2 (two) distinct approaches:

  • SSC IT Service Management program providing various support models that can be leveraged by the GC community looking for IT Service Management only;
  • PSPC & CFIA Service Management program (IN-CAMERA session) providing alternative approach that may be leveraged by departments looking for an integrated service management solution which include those outside of IT Service Management;

5. Digital Learning Management Environment

Description:​

Canada School for Public Service presented its Learning Management System as an optional Enterprise Solution at GC EARB, July 14, 2022

The target state architecture is a SaaS solution which includes the ability to support digital learning and development, including planning design, delivery, training materials, help desk strategies and personnel, professional training services, and operation on an on-going basis for up to 260,000 employees.

Key features include:

  • Offer learners modern, accessible, mobile-first learning experiences.
  • Data/dashboards/visualizations to enable real time decision making.
  • Enable learning content sharing across GC.
  • Flexible, interoperable, open, cloud-first architecture.
  • Offer departments a learning management solution through multitenancy on common platform.

1. Financial Management Transformation

Description:​

FMT Program will modernize the financial and materiel management (FM) business model across the Government of Canada (GC). Key objectives:

  • Provide more timely access to reliable, consistent GC-wide information
  • Ensure that FM services better enable the delivery of programs for
