Architectural components represent collections of security and enterprise IT functionality or capabilities. Each component defines a logical set of tightly-related functions that may be implemented by one or more hardware and software components. As a modular, loosely-coupled architecture, components can be upgraded or replaced as required to meet changing threats without having to re-architect the entire strategic infrastructure.  These components will be further decomposed during system design phase and will result in the identification of system sub-components.

The proposed GC enterprise security architecture components are mapped to the enterprise security focus areas (ESFA).  Each ESFA decomposes into architectural components that represent collections of security and enterprise IT functionality. The image below shows the mapping of architectural components to ESFAs. For more information about GC enterprise components and how they are mapped to the ESFAs, please read the [[Media:GC ESA Framework.pdf|GC Enterprise Security Architecture Framework]].
