Education: Successful completion of a post-secondary education program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed or an acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience.

Description: The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary innovation team of programmers and UX specialists to help build digital products and support innovation and learning within the CSPS Digital Academy. You will develop and maintain web applications, integrate front-end with back-end web services and APIs, and work closely with product owners, designers, programmers and other stakeholders to understand and address user and business needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a positive, driven and creative team who thrives on experimenting with new ideas and technologies, learns by doing, and embraces diversity as main drivers of innovation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities: As a front-end developer, you will be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Developing front-end web applications and maintaining UI features using HTML, CSS, JavaScript Frameworks (ex. Vue.js, React.js), jQuerry.
  • Developing software tools and features to assist with reporting and dev process automation.
  • Working with designers to review and ensure the feasibility of website designs and convert designs into website elements.
  • Implementing accessible and responsive web design across devices (desktop, mobile, tablets) and web browsers.
  • Implementing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies and review all web-related analytics
  • Maintaining and controlling code versions using source control system, such as Github and Plastic SCM.
  • Troubleshooting, testing, debugging and maintaining websites and servers to ensure optimization and functionality.
  • Working with and / or developing APIs.
  • Working with a SQL Server database to fetch data and writing SQL queries.
  • Maintaining Content Management Systems (CSM), implementing new templates and plugins, and support content managers with site updates, as required.
  • Keeping abreast of, learning and experimenting with new technologies to support innovation.

The Canada School of Public Service (CSPS) Digital Academy was established in 2018 to help federal public servants gain the knowledge, skills and mindsets they need in the digital age. About the Innovation Services Team

The Innovation Services team, within the Digital Academy, is a multidisciplinary team of UX specialists and developers. We work closely with learning specialists and product owners to help enable effective relationships with learners and deliver truly rewarding learning experiences. We lead the design and development of user-centric digital innovative solutions and support the CSPS and Digital Academy’s learning products and programs. We value curiosity, out of the box thinking, and learning by doing. Some of the innovation projects we are currently working on include vExpo (virtual expo and kiosks leveraging immersive technology), Busrides.ca (microlearning platform), learning paths, and more!
