Our Candidates
Through this campaign, we aim to recruit the brightest minds from a variety of scientific education and training, who also identify as a person with disabilities, for positions in the Biological Sciences from coast to coast to coast.
According to the Employment Equity Act, persons with disabilities have a long-term or recurring physical, mental, sensory, psychological or learning impairment.
Examples of disabilities, whether visible or non-visible, could include:
- co-ordination or dexterity (difficulty using hands or arms, for example, grasping or handling a stapler or using a keyboard)
- mobility (difficulty moving around, for example, from one office to another or up and down stairs)
- blind or visual impairment (unable to see or difficulty seeing)
- deaf or hard of hearing (unable to hear or difficulty in hearing)
- speech impairment (unable to speak or difficulty speaking and being understood)
- other disability (including learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, neurodivergence, and all other types of disabilities)

Our accommodation process: For you to perform at your best
We offer various assessment accommodation measures that aims to remove barriers to a fair assessment and allow candidates to fully demonstrate their competency. The accommodations can be a change made to an assessment procedure, format or content, without altering the qualification being assessed nor the proficiency level required.
Below are a few examples of the types of accommodations that can be provided during our recruitment phase:
- Modifications in the testing environment
- Modifications to the test format
- Modifications to the response format
- Modifications in scheduling/timing
- Other modifications
Most of the people who request assessment accommodation do it based on a disability. However, accommodation can be requested for any legitimate need relating to one of the 13 prohibited grounds for discrimination set out in the Canadian Human Rights Act.
To be accommodated based on a disability, you will need to provide us with information related to your functional limitations, which can be temporary, permanent, visible or invisible. In many cases, you may only need to fill out a simple form. You only need to let us know how your functional limitations may affect the assessment, and not the exact diagnosis.
