About Public Opinion ResearchThe Government of Canada uses a range of tools to learn about the diversity of views and interests of the public. One of these tools is public opinion research (POR) which provides the government with valuable insights on a wide range of subjects that contribute to evidence-based decision-making. POR is the planned, one-way systematic collection of opinion-based information from the public, private individuals, and representatives of businesses or other entities by or for the Government of Canada. POR activities include designing and testing methods to collect data; data collection itself, including sampling, data entry, coding; primary data analysis; and convening and managing online panels. For more information about the Government of Canada’s Public Opinion Research Activities, explore the most recent Annual Report produced by the Public Opinion Research Directorate (PORD).
