There are many people working in the design of Government of Canada user experiences, whether for software applications, web sites, services or products. The GC UX Network brings together the UX community within the GC and beyond for networking events.

How many people are in the GC UX Network?

Our mailing list is current over 500 people from all levels of government in Canada, as well as the US, UK and beyond.

What kind of events does the GC UX Network hold?

The GC UX Network holds online networking events a few times a year on Discord. They offer participants the ability to:

  • introduce themselves to other members of the UX community,
  • find UXers to hire or find UX jobs, and
  • participate in networking discussions on a variety of UX-related topics.

As these are networking opportunities, events are not recorded.

Why Discord? Discords is the preferred environment because it allows us to have a number of message boards and simultaneous networking discussions. Users can move freely between the different conversations happening on the platform, which provides our events with the feel of a networking event (vs. a more talking head/ presentation/ conference format afforded by other platforms such as Teams and Zoom).

Discord is blocked in certain departments, so we encourage you to test your connection before attempting to join events and consider using a personal device to connect.

If you are new to Discord, check out this Beginner's Guide. We will also have a tech support channel in our events if you need help.

How big are GC UX Network events?

Participation ranges depending on the topic and time of year. We can have anywhere from 50-150 people per event.
