During my three-month micro mission as a Diversity and Inclusion Analyst I had the opportunity to become a contributor to numerous initiatives including the Ask Me Anything events co-created with an amazing Canadian Coast Guard team and the Lifting as you Lead Mentoring Circles program. The latter was the primary project on which my time and talents were utilized. As the team created new content, updated formatting, promoted and then launched the second cohort of this program, I worked closely with the project manager. During this time, I became driven to be a better ally in my role as a team leader, I gained confidence to speak up in difficult situations and help others understand and reflect on their own unconscious bias.
