In 2019, the Government of Canada took a big step towards improving transparency with the passage of Bill C-58: an Act to amend the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. As Part II of the Access to Information Act requiring departments subject to the Act publish certain information known to be of interest to the public on a scheduled basis known as 'Proactive Publication'.

In 2019 Bill C-58 received royal assent, bringing into force the most significant changes to the ''Access to Information Act'' since it's inception in 1983. Amongst several important changes to the Act was the introduction of Part II: Proactive Publication requirements. Proactive Publications are records known to be of public interest government departments subject to the Act must publish proactively on a scheduled basis. Part II represents a big step forward towards improving the Government of Canada's transparency.
