Finding user profiles

Want to connect with various members of GCpedia? Well, it should relatively easy by following the steps below!

Find a user by name

While there’s no perfect way to do this, there are three options that may help.

Option 1
Most users (but unfortunately not all) have either Firstname.Lastname or Firstname.lastname (please note the difference in letter case) as their username. Each user gets a userpage by default. Therefore, searching User: Firstname.Lastname or User: Firstname.lastname in the search box should bring up the page of a registered user. However, it seems that older (pre-2011) users did not have their user page autocreated; so searching that way may not work for someone who has an account pre-2011.
Option 2
You can also do a user namespace search using these two steps:
  1. Search the person’s name from the main search box in the upper right of the page.
  2. From the Search results screen, uncheck all boxes except User and List redirects, and press the search button again.
This will find matching names where the user has a non-standard username
Option 3
Go to this page which lists all the users to a maximum of 500 per page. You could go to the range of the person you are looking for and use the “Find on this page” feature in your browser to hopefully get to who you are looking for.

Table of Contents for User Profiles

Clicking on a letter in the box will take you to a page with a list of all users whose username begins with that letter.

Find a user by interest

  1. Enter the search term in the search box.
    • For example "communities"
    • A page of search results will appear.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page
  3. Un-check (Main) and Talk
  4. Click User
    • This will bring you to a page of users who have the word "communities" in their profile.
