myTC Oversight: Digitizing Inspection Processes

What is myTC Oversight?

myTC Oversight is Transport Canada’s new digital platform that is digitizing inspection processes and inspectors’ reference materials.

The Reference Centre

Oversight reference materials for all modes

All inspectors can access oversight reference material using myTC Oversight.

The myTC Oversight Reference Centre contains digital versions of the oversight reference materials that inspectors need to access to conduct inspections. It contains oversight reference materials that are currently accessed through a variety of government websites, paper binders, RDIMS documents, and other sources. Reference materials are organized into folders for intuitive browsing, or can be found through the search feature. Inspectors can now leave their binders at the office because the oversight reference material they need to do their jobs is on their tablets, even when they don’t have an internet connection.

The Activity Centre

Oversight Reporting designed with inspectors in mind

The myTC Oversight Activity Centre contains digital inspection processes that allow inspectors to:

  • prepare, complete and submit inspection forms electronically
  • incorporate electronic signatures
  • convert inspection data to PDFs and deliver them by email, or by printing

When an inspection type is added to the Activity Centre, the aim is to minimize the paperwork and administrative processes related to inspections, giving inspectors more time to focus on inspecting. With myTC Oversight’s summer 2019 release, Marine Safety Inspectors can now use the myTC Oversight Activity Centre while conducting Flag State and Port State inspections.

Future Releases

The myTC Oversight team is building a platform that supports the needs of inspectors. We continually update myTC Oversight based on the feedback we get from inspectors, starting with the most important functions that are required for inspections, as well as additional tools and features that make the inspection reporting process more efficient and easier.

Upcoming maintenance releases will include increased usability such as enhanced search features, and performance improvements (through cloud integration).

If you’re an inspector and would like to provide feedback, you can send us your commentsat any time or fill out our Mobile Technology Survey.

The myTC Oversight Team built the platform with a Reference Centre that allows TC inspectors in all transport modes to access digital versions of the oversight reference material they need to do their work. This replaces the need to carry paper copies with reference material that is available all in one place on a tablet, even when inspectors are disconnected from either the TC network or the internet.

The myTC Oversight Team is making improvements and increasing functionality to the Reference Centre (such as enhanced search capability) with maintenance releases.

The Activity Centre is now available to Marine Inspectors, and our team is also adding to the available oversight inspection processes in the Activity Centre so that more inspectors can:

prepare, complete and submit inspection forms electronically
   incorporate electronic signatures
convert inspection data to PDFs and deliver them by email, or by printing

We are currently working on adding two Rail Inspection processes to the Activity Centre, with the goal of adding inspection processes for all of Transport Canada’s modes.

First we built something for everyone…

All TC inspectors in all transport modes can now use the myTC Oversight Reference Centre to access the digital reference material necessary to complete their inspections. This replaces the need to carry legacy, paper copies of reference material, with material that is available all in one place on the platform, even when inspectors are disconnected from either the TC network or the internet.

Now we’re building everyone something…

Having built the platform, the myTC Oversight Team is now developing the Activity Centre by adding digital inspection processes so that inspectors can:

  1. conduct, complete and review inspections
  2. incorporate electronic signatures where required
  3. convert inspection data to PDFs and deliver them by email, or by printing if required.to carry legacy, paper copies of reference material, with material that is available all in one place on the platform, even when inspectors are disconnected from either the TC network or the internet.
