Hiring Process
Note: Students are not considered to be members of the public service.
- Advertised: Job postings on GC Jobs.
- External: persons belonging to the public service and others.
 - Internal: persons belonging to the public service (students sometimes included).
 
 - Non-advertised: Job postings are not posted (Word of mouth).
- External: Everyone excepted the persons belonging to the public service.
 - Internal: persons belonging to the public service.
 
 
Types of employment
- For students, casual employees or people who have never worked at the Government of Canada (GC)
 - For public servants (excluding people with a student or casual employment)

- Learn more about the occupational group that applies to you and in which you are starting to begin your career.
- This is the group you will belong to when you start your career in the public service (after your education / student job).
 - Ask your colleagues! They will be able to help you!
 
 - Network
- Participate in activities and committees to expand your contact network (Federal Youth Network, GC Students)
 - Contact the resource persons in job offers on GC Jobs.
 - Go to GC directory, search for departments that interest you, and search for keywords or branches that interest you.
- Get in touch with managers.
 - Tip: Start a conversation and find things in common with the person, don't ask for a job right away.
 - Tip: Learn about cold emailing techniques to communicate with someone for the first time. Improve your solicitation technique and learn from your communication mistakes.
