This is the sample workspace for CDO DGO - this is primarily for sharing common links for helping us to work from home!

sample link to our datasets on the open data portal: https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset?keywords=Immigration+Refugees+and+Citizenship+Canada

since this is a public page we would NOT put our phone list here or share any documents that are not public to be safe.

USING SLACK AT SPPB CDO :)

Slack is an instant messaging platform

Slack will be used to communicate without email which will lessen the load on the VPN while keeping us up-to-date
  1. You will receive an invitation from the workspace chief-data-officer-branch-ircc.  Please accept the invitation.
  2. When you join the workspace, you will be asked to set up your account. For more on setting up slack click here.
  3. You can use the web based application or download the app to your smart phone. Please let DGO know if you have any issues
  4. In Slack, work happens in channels. Find and join relevant channels in your workspace to make sure you’re getting all the info you need. I have created a channel for each team. If I have missed any please let me know. For more on working in channels click here.
  5. Other channels you need to know:
    1. #general - can be used for communicating across teams on work matters.
    2. #announcement - here our DG Ümit will be making announcements when necessary.
    3. #random - as the name states here you leave tips, tricks or inspirational quotes, etc.
    4. #cdo-dpu – use for instant access to DPU updates on requests
    5. #CDO-STATS – use for instant access to STATS for request QnA with IRCC requestors
  6. There are also direct messaging options. For more on finding and starting conversations in channels or directly click here.
  7. There is also a great search function to find conversations.
  8. Please do not add secret/ sensitive documents to slack.

USING ASANA AT CDO

Asana is a web and mobile application designed to help teams organize, track, and manage their work.

  1. You will receive an invitation from CDO team. Please accept the invitation.
  2. When you join the workspace, you will be asked to set up your account. Please use Google Chrome.
  3. We are currently using the free version so not all features are available.
  4. In Asana, work happens under teams or projects. I have only created one team for CDO and an example of a project. Teams can decide to create teams for themselves or simply have projects under CDO:
    1. Creating a team allows you to create multiple projects for that team and keeps your projects private to your team in the free version. To add a team click on the Add Team button below CDO, enter the names and the members and hit create team.
    2. Projects created under CDO can be seen by all the branch members under the free version. To create a project click on the plus (+) sign beside the words CDO. You will have the chance to create one from a template (strongly recommend) or create a blank project.
  5. You can assign tasks:
    1. to specific persons
    2. add due dates
    3. add sub tasks
    4. comment on tasks and
    5. monitor priority
  6. You can see all tasks assigned to you by clicking on My Tasks. Home will show you all the projects and teams you are on.
  7. For more information on Asana contact me/DGO or click on the following links:
